Job Opening : Dyeing Assistant

Posted by Melanie Dilworth

We'd like to open this up to the general public until January 31st.  Please pass the word around, especially if you're a resident of Washington or Multnomah Counties in Oregon!  Thanks!

Job Listing: Dyeing Assistant

Black Trillium Fibres is a ten-year-old business that produces hand-dyed yarns to both wholesale and retail customers.  We are looking for someone to be a dyeing assistant for Black Trillium’s primary dyer.

We would prefer to hire someone who has previous experience working as at least a part-time dyer.  A familiarity with the chemistry and math concepts vital to properly dyeing yarn is a must.  We also require that applicants have a high school diploma or similar and at least some previous retail experience.

Job Requirements

  • Able to lift 35lbs unassisted
  • Take direction well
  • Use critical thinking skills
  • Function with a cooperative mindset
  • Be comfortable around children and dogs
  • Work a flexible weekly schedule of 16 hours or more
  • Pass a drug test and a background test

Dyeing yarn is a physically demanding job.  There’s quite a bit of handling things coming out of hot water, lifting, multi-tasking, and repetition.  On the flip side, the dyeing and crafting community is incredibly creative, and so is the job.

As Black Trillium Fibres continues to expand, there will be future opportunities for increased hours and responsibilities, as well as the possibility of travel out of state.

We are located in a quiet neighborhood in Hillsboro, Oregon, and we value our neighbors.  We do not accept in-person applications (or foot traffic of any kind) and we will require that any future employees be respectful of our premises, privacy and community.

If you think this job is for you, please email your resume and cover letter to service@blacktrilliumfibres.com with “Dyeing Assistant” as the subject line. PDF format is preferred.
